Predownloading Updates without installing

Because of the secure nature of our environment and controls placed on us by our security system, and use of authenticated proxies to gain access to updates when we implement your rccontrol updates; updates are taking us up to 30 minutes per server across 6 servers.

Is there some mechanism in rccontrol that is undocumented that will allow us to pre-download the necessary installation packages and then when we perform the actual upgrade, there is no necessary downloads?

If there isn't such a mechanism, is there a means to get that onto the roadmap? I would think this would be a relatively simple change that would just stop after the download instead of installing.

    Hi David,

That's quite common requirement for our users. We often have systems that don't have outside connectivity. That's why we build an offline installation mode.

    Please take a look here:

Basically the steps involved are getting latest MANIFEST file, downloading required binaries from that file, most likely VCSSERVER and RhodeCode itself, and then coping them to /home/user/.rccontrol/cache + using --offline flag.

In this way RhodeCode would not download anything it would pick the binaries from the cache folder and install those.

Hope that helps, let me know if you have any troubles with this method.

Perfect! Thank you. I saw the offline flag, but that was the missing piece.
